PING tool is one of the simplest IPHost monitors; it is used primarily to detect a network host's availability as well as availability of any website and/or device assigned an IP address.
System administrators commonly use ping command as a general tool to test network/server presence and performance.
While it is convenient to manually check a single host using ping command, periodic testing multiple sites can hardly be performed manually; this task should be handled by automated means, such as IPHost Network Monitor.
IPHost Network Monitor features:
- easy to download, install and configure
- automatically scanning a network within a given range of IP addresses
- runs as a Windows service
- monitor network devices remotely
- set of alarm notifications by email, SMS, ICQ, AOL and more
- auto run script or program after problem
- text and graphical views of ping results
IPHost PING tool performs automatic scheduled ping (ICMP) requests to test a server's availabilty. The host's response (if any), network errors (if occur), response time - everything is logged. In case there are perormance problems, the monitor raises an alert to notify the system administrator.
Ping test can be of crucial importance in order to determine round-trip time (RTT) of
the server you are sending data/commands to. For example, in case of a website, the higher
RTT is, the slower site pages are loaded. In case of a print server large RTT means longer
delays when users' documents are printed.
To sum it up: the lower RTT is, the better.
