Windows Interface
The Windows interface of IPHost Network Monitor (also called a client GUI) provides a way for the user to start, stop and configure network monitoring, obtain and analyze the results of monitoring and state change notifications. A GUI overview can be found here.
The Client GUI consists of menu, toolbar, Tree View, Property Editor, Report View and Log View.
The client GUI may be started
-
by clicking an icon on the desktop
-
by choosing the IPHost Network Monitor Client item from the IPHost Network Monitor section of the Programs menu.
When you start the client GUI, an icon is placed in the system tray; when you close the GUI main window, the icon remains present and you can double click it to reopen the client GUI. When a monitoring service is running, the icon displays the worst monitor state across your system; when the monitoring service is stopped, the icon is grayed. By placing the mouse pointer over the tray icon you can get a state summary tooltip for your system.
When the client GUI runs in the system tray, important system events such as monitoring service start and stop are signaled with tray balloons. If you set up a Pop-up window alert for some monitors, it also shows a balloon in the tray.
A context menu appears when you right-click the tray icon; it is shown below.
Note: a shortcut to cleint GUI is also placed into "Startup" folder of a user who installed the product, thus causing the client to start automatically upon startup. To disable this behaviour, simply remove the corresponding shortcut.
